The 2025 West African University Sports Federation (WAUSF) Games have been launched. The event will take place at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium. It is scheduled for October 1 to 15, 2025.
This is the second time the University of Ghana will host the WAUG. A 16-member Local Organising Committee (LOC) has been formed for this purpose. Mrs. Emelia Agyei-Mensah leads the committee as Chairperson and Registrar.
Dr. Austin Luguterah serves as Vice-Chairperson. Other notable members include Professors Matilda Steiner-Asiedu, George Akanlig-Pare, Mahmoud Abdulai Mahmoud, and Abdallah Ali-Nakya. The committee also includes professionals from various fields.
Members with expertise in sports and logistics are Mr. Yaw Sakyi Afari, Mr. Samuel Alphonse Etsibah, and Mrs. Lydia Anowa Nyako-Danquah. Mr. Augustine Amissare will act as Secretary and coordinate preparations.
Dr. Austin Wontepaga Luguterah spoke to the media about their readiness to host the event. He expressed confidence in their facilities compared to previous years. "We now have top-notch facilities that have been tested," he said.
He noted that last year’s events helped maintain these facilities in good shape. The theme for the West African University Games is “Unite, Compete, and Inspire.” This theme reflects unity, friendly competition, and inspiration among universities in West Africa.
