Aston Villa boss Unai Emery believes his players can make history. They face Paris St-Germain in the second leg of their Champions League tie.
Villa lost 3-1 in the first leg last week. They won the European Cup in 1982 and want to progress further.
Emery said his team must manage the match emotionally and tactically. He emphasized that they need to believe they can overcome the two-goal deficit.
"I have experience with comebacks, both positive and negative," he stated. "But this situation is different."
He wants to create a lasting legacy for Aston Villa. Last year, they reached the Conference League semi-finals but fell short. This year, they aim for success in the Champions League.
Emery has lost only one of his 13 home matches in major European competitions. He has won 11 of those games.
Villa is currently on a 17-match unbeaten run at home, dating back to November 2024.
Emery hopes to pair Marcus Rashford and Ollie Watkins together soon. However, he feels this match against PSG may not be the right time.
Rashford and Watkins have played seven games together so far. Their longest time on the pitch together was during a win over Cardiff City.
"The next step is to play them together," Emery explained. "We’ve tried Rashford on the left side before."
He wants more practice with both as strikers but prefers to wait for now.
Midfielder Morgan Rogers believes fans will play a crucial role at Villa Park. He said their support can inspire the team towards victory.
"Home support is massive," Rogers noted about two-legged ties. "We need our advantage at home."
He added that creating an electric atmosphere is essential for success this season.
Emery echoed these sentiments about fan support: "If we connect with our supporters, it boosts us."
He believes positive energy from fans will help players perform better at home. Villa Park should feel like a fortress during this crucial match.
