WPL 2024/25: Investment in women's football is yielding results - Kurt Okraku

Kurt Okraku, the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), praised women's football. This came after the 2024/25 season ended.

Okraku attended the Women's Football Festival at the University of Ghana Stadium. The festival featured finals for both the FA Cup and Malta Guinness Women's Premier League.

He presented trophies to the winning teams. Faith Ladies won the FA Cup by beating Jonina Ladies on penalties. Police Ladies claimed their first league title by defeating Ampem Darkoa Ladies.

The stadium had impressive attendance, with many Ghanaians supporting women's football that day.

Okraku spoke to media during the 2025 KGL Foundation U-17 Inter-regional Colts Championship. He highlighted the growth of women's sports in Ghana.

"It was a day I looked forward to," he said. "We celebrated women’s football at the Women’s Football Festival." He expressed pride in all four teams that played.

He noted how fans braved heavy rains to support female sports. "This shows how far we have come," he added.

Okraku believes investments in women's sports over five years are paying off. As CAF's second Vice President, he hopes for continued progress.

"Our Black Queens are back where they belong," he stated, referring to their preparation for WAFCON. He congratulated Police Ladies and Faith Ladies for their efforts and success.

"They deserve respect for female sports," Okraku concluded, looking forward to higher competition levels.
