WPL 2024/25: Southern Zone set for final day drama as Police Ladies move ahead of Hasaacas

The 2024/25 Malta Guinness Ghana Women's Premier League Southern Zone has changed. Police Ladies have moved to the top of the league table.

This shift happened after Hasaacas Ladies failed to win at home. They played against Halifax Queens on Sunday, April 6.

Before matchday 17, Police and Hasaacas were just two points apart.

Police played first, hosting Faith Ladies, who have struggled this season. Mary Berko scored in the 40th and 79th minutes for a 2-0 win.

Hasaacas were expected to secure three points to maintain their lead. However, a late goal from Seidatu Wahab ended their game at Kobby's Astro Turf in a 2-2 draw. This result cost Boniface Ayipah's team two crucial points.

Sylvia Osei seemed to score the winning goal for Hasmal Ladies in the 78th minute. But Wahab equalized shortly after, denying the home side victory.

After these results, both Hasaacas and Police have 36 points from 17 games. However, Police tops the table due to head-to-head superiority. They handed Hasaacas their only league defeat this season.

Jonina Ladies also won over the weekend and sit at 34 points. They still have a chance to clinch the crown as they head into the final round.

On the final day, Hasaacas will face Jonina Ladies while Police plays Epiphany Warriors.

For Hasaacas to reach this season's final, they must beat Jonina Ladies. They also need Police Ladies to lose against Epiphany Warriors.

A draw will suffice for Police Ladies to win the Southern Zone title if Jonina drops points against Hasaacas.

Jonina could become champions if they beat Hasaacas and Police drops points against Epiphany.
