Mr. Richard Akpokavie is the new President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC). He promises a united and inclusive leadership for all sports federations.
In an interview with Gideon Okyere Anim on Original TV, he emphasized collaboration and transparency. His goal is to achieve shared objectives across Ghana's sports community. “My leadership will unite us as a team,” he stated.
Akpokavie previously served as the GOC Secretary General. He learned the importance of consensus-building during his time there. Many sports federations face limited resources and logistical challenges.
He believes Team Ghana's success in international competitions depends on cooperation. This includes collaboration between the GOC, national federations, and government agencies.
Sports stakeholders have welcomed his election with optimism. They hope for strategic leadership, equitable support, and accountability in Ghana’s Olympic movement.
As the 2026 Commonwealth Games and 2028 Los Angeles Olympics approach, new initiatives are expected. These will focus on athlete preparation, infrastructure, and federation coordination.
Mr. Akpokavie succeeds Ben Nunoo Mensah. He brings decades of experience in legal and sports administration to his new role.
