Abraham Amaliba, the Acting Director General of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), announced a new initiative. The NRSA has partnered with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for this initiative. It is called the “Stay Alive” campaign. The goal is to provide free road safety training and awareness.
This announcement comes as the Easter holidays begin. This period often sees increased travel and higher road risks.
During an interview with citisports, Mr. Amaliba spoke at a GFA ceremony. At this event, eight new Nissan Navara pick-up vehicles were presented to Regional Football Associations (RFAs). These vehicles are part of the FIFA Forward programme.
Mr. Amaliba explained that their collaboration aims to promote safety in football. He emphasized that since these vehicles are donated, drivers must be well-informed. He stated, "It is about observing road safety measures and defensive driving."
He expressed concern about accidents involving these new vehicles within a year. To prevent this, he offered assistance for driver training and sensitization. He wants drivers to be equipped with necessary skills.
The NRSA and GFA are already partners in the “Stay Alive” campaign. Mr. Amaliba believes it is their duty to provide driver education services. He mentioned that they have offices in all regions for training purposes.
He also cautioned all road users, especially those involved in football activities. They should stay alert, obey road signs, and prioritize life over speed. This campaign is part of broader efforts by the NRSA to reduce accidents during festive periods and beyond.
