We want to give Afena-Gyan another chance in the Black Stars- Otto Addo

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has explained Felix Afena-Gyan's inclusion in Ghana’s squad for the 2025 Unity Cup.

The tournament will take place from May 28 to May 31 in England. Ghana, Nigeria, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago will compete for the trophy.

In a pre-game press conference, Addo said this tournament is a chance to test more players. This is important ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in September.

Afena-Gyan is one of the surprise names on the squad list. He currently plays for Juventus’ junior team. He gained attention at AS Roma but lost favor with national team coaches due to poor form.

Addo believes Afena-Gyan deserves another chance. He noted that many young players are in the squad, including Afena-Gyan.

“His career hasn’t gone as he expected,” Addo said. “But this is normal in football; there are ups and downs.”

He added that this tournament offers Afena-Gyan an opportunity to prove himself again.

This season with Juventus Next Gen, the 22-year-old has scored six goals and provided three assists in 30 league games.
