Why Atalanta coach bench Ademola Lookman against Inter Milan

Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini explained his decision to bench Ademola Lookman in the Supercoppa Italia semifinal against Inter Milan due to the team's packed schedule.

Despite a goalless first half, Inter Milan took a 2-0 lead in the second half with two goals from Denzel Dumfries. Gasperini made changes, bringing on Lookman, Ederson, and Charles De Ketelaere in the 56th minute.

Atalanta had a goal ruled offside in the 72nd minute, and Lookman had a chance saved in the 90th minute.

After the match, Gasperini emphasized the need to rotate players with many upcoming games, stating that Lookman and De Ketelaere couldn’t always play 90 minutes. This defeat marked Atalanta’s first since September 2024.
