Young actors revealed for Harry Potter TV series

HBO has announced the cast for its Harry Potter TV series.

Arabella Stanton will play Hermione Granger. Dominic McLaughlin will portray Harry Potter. Alastair Stout will take on the role of Ron Weasley.

Last year, an open casting call was held. Over 30,000 children auditioned for these roles.

Showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod praised the young actors' talent. They expressed excitement about seeing their magic onscreen.

The trio joins John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore. Janet McTeer will play Minerva McGonagall, and Paapa Essiedu will portray Severus Snape.

Nick Frost is confirmed as Rubeus Hagrid, while Luke Thallon plays Quirinus Quirrell. Paul Whitehouse will take on the role of Argus Filch.

More casting announcements are expected soon. The young actors are newcomers compared to Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint.

McLaughlin has appeared in Sky comedy Grow and BBC's Gifted. Stanton played Matilda in Matilda: The Musical on the West End.

JK Rowling will serve as an executive producer for the show. HBO promises a "faithful adaptation" of her books.

The series aims to explore plot lines more deeply than the films did. It is set to span at least a decade.

Filming is expected to start this summer at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the UK. The first season could air as early as 2026 on HBO Max.
