Kafui Danku-Pitcher is the Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority. She is optimistic about reviving Ghana's film industry.
In an interview on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, Kafui shared her vision. She aims to bring positive change to the film sector.
She noted that funding and distribution are major issues in the industry. "We want to work towards getting the film fund," she said. Kafui has been engaging stakeholders since taking office a month ago.
She has also informed filmmakers to register for licenses with the authority. This will help classify their films properly.
According to a press release, all films for public exhibition must be classified by the NFA. The Development and Classification of Film Act, 2016 (Act 935) mandates this requirement.
The law states that no one can exhibit a film without NFA approval. This regulation aims to improve standards in Ghana's growing film ecosystem.
It applies to feature films, short films, trailers, TV series, documentaries, and more. Effective May 1, 2025, new enforcement measures will begin for classification.
Every producer or exhibitor must hold a valid license from the NFA for classification. The National Film Authority regulates and develops Ghana's film industry while promoting its growth both locally and internationally.
