Africa: A Call to Action to End Cholera in Africa By 2030

On June 4, 2025, twenty African Union Member States met for a special meeting. This meeting focused on cholera and followed a call from Africa CDC. It was led by H.E. President Hakainde Hichilema, the AU Champion on Cholera.

This gathering of Heads of State marked a significant moment in the fight against cholera in Africa. Leaders agreed on a unified Call-to-Action to eliminate cholera by 2030. The plan emphasizes national ownership, local vaccine production, integrated WASH systems, and coordinated responses.

Africa CDC is dedicated to helping Member States and partners implement this plan. Their goal is to turn political commitment into real action. This effort aims to secure Africa's health sovereignty and end cholera for good.
