Africa, China Urged to Engage in Mutual Dialogue & Exchange Knowledge to Advance Modernization

Addis Ababa — Peter Kagwanja, CEO of the Africa Policy Institute, emphasized the need for dialogue between Africa and China. He believes both regions should exchange knowledge and share best practices. This collaboration can help advance their modernization efforts.

The 2025 Hong Ting Forum took place in Nairobi, Kenya. It gathered senior officials, diplomats, scholars, industry leaders, and media professionals. They discussed ways to enhance China-Africa cooperation on modernization.

The forum was hosted by the Xinhua News Agency Africa Regional Bureau. Its theme was "China-Africa Dialogue on the Path to Modernization." During the event, Kagwanja highlighted the importance of mutual respect in modernization efforts.

He stated that both China and African countries should pursue homegrown development strategies. These strategies should focus on sustained growth, inclusivity, and stability. Kagwanja noted that their shared history supports this collaborative approach.

He also mentioned that dialogue between China and Africa has deep roots. It dates back to the Silk Road era when ancient civilizations exchanged goods and ideas. This historical connection continues to influence modern relations in culture, economics, and governance.
