Burkina Faso/Nigeria: U-17 Afcon - Burkina Faso Make History With Quarterfinals, World Cup Qualification

Burkina Faso secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Egypt on Thursday night. This win confirmed their status as one of the tournament's strongest teams.

They have made history by qualifying for both the 2025 CAF U-17 AFCON quarter-finals and the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup. Burkina Faso is among the tournament favorites, with five podium finishes in past competitions.

The team won their first title in 2011, showcasing their best performance. They were runners-up in 1999 and 2001, losing to Ghana and Nigeria respectively. Recently, they have proven to be a strong force at age-grade levels in Africa.

In their opening match, Burkina Faso edged past Cameroon with a score of 2-1. Now, they have two wins from two matches, ensuring advancement to the next round with one game left.

Goals from Issouf Dabo and Asharaf Tabsoba sealed the victory against Egypt. Belal Ateya scored a late consolation goal for Egypt.

After a tense start, Burkina Faso took the lead just before halftime. Dabo scored in the 41st minute to put them ahead. The West Africans maintained momentum throughout the match. Despite Egypt's efforts to recover, Tabsoba doubled the lead in the 69th minute with a composed finish.
