Comoros President Azali Assoumani was slightly injured in a knife attack during a religious leader's funeral near the capital, Moroni.
A government spokeswoman confirmed that his life is not in danger, and he has since returned home.
The attacker, reportedly a young military officer, was arrested at the scene.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear.
Assoumani, who first came to power in a 1999 military coup, has faced allegations of authoritarianism. He was re-elected in a contested election in 2023 and served as president of the African Union from 2023 to 2024.
