Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote has regained his status as Africa's wealthiest individual, as revealed by the latest Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
With a net worth of $13.7 billion, Dangote has edged out South African businessman Johann Rupert, whose fortune currently stands at $13.3 billion.

However, recent updates have seen Dangote reclaim the top spot.
The Bloomberg Billionaires Index now places Dangote at the 149th position globally, while Rupert is ranked 155th.
Dangote’s net worth recently experienced fluctuations, including a notable increase of $144 million, though his year-to-date change reflects a decrease of $1.38 billion.
In contrast, Rupert’s valuation saw a decrease of $334 million, but his year-to-date change is positive, amounting to $875 million.
Despite challenges such as operating a new oil refinery and economic unrest in Nigeria, Dangote has successfully retained his wealth.
In the broader list of wealthy Africans, other notable figures include South Africans Nicky Oppenheimer and Natie Kirsh, with net worths of $10.9 billion and $8.74 billion respectively.
Additionally, Egyptians Nassef Sawiris and Naguib Sawiris have net worths of $8.63 billion and $6.94 billion, showcasing the significant wealth present across the continent.
