A tragic road accident in Kaduna State, northern Nigeria, has killed at least 36 Muslim worshippers traveling to celebrate Eid-el-Maulud, Prophet Muhammad's birthday.
Their overloaded bus collided with a truck near Lere town, with 31 others injured and hospitalized.
Some reports suggest the death toll may reach 40.
The worshippers were on their way to Saminaka from Kwandare when the crash occurred.
Road accidents are common in Nigeria, with more than 1,470 deaths reported in the first quarter of 2024.
The government declared Monday a public holiday for Eid-el-Maulud.
