Nairobi – The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) gathered at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. They were there to receive the body of Major Paul Njoroge Ndung'u. He was killed while serving with the United Nations in the Central African Republic.
Major Ndung'u was fatally wounded during an ambush by armed militants. This incident occurred while he was on patrol in the Zemio region. Maj Gen Luka Kutto led the KDF team and praised him as a gallant officer.
His body arrived on April 3 and was taken to Mashujaa Farewell Home. Burial arrangements are now underway. A statement expressed that the KDF, his family, and the nation mourn his loss.
The UN Spokesperson's office released a statement on behalf of António Guterres. It confirmed that Major Ndung'u was killed by unknown assailants during a patrol near Tabane village.
The Secretary-General extended condolences to his family and to Kenya's government and people. He noted that attacks on UN peacekeepers may be war crimes under international law. He urged Central African authorities to identify and bring the perpetrators to justice swiftly.
