Kenya eases travel requirements for nearly all African visitors

Kenya’s government has announced a significant shift in its travel policy, removing the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) requirement for nearly all African nations, except Somalia and Libya due to security concerns.

This move aims to boost tourism, promote regional integration, and ease cross-border travel across the continent.

Citizens from most African countries will now be able to enter Kenya for up to two months without needing prior authorisation. Travelers from the East African Community, including Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Burundi, can stay for up to six months.

The change follows criticism of the previous ETA system, which made entry more complicated, leading to Kenya’s drop in the 2024 Africa Visa Openness Index.

The government plans to implement an improved system for faster approvals and streamlined processes at entry points, reflecting Kenya’s ongoing efforts to balance security with welcoming travelers.
