The Government of Liberia has praised former Speaker Jonathan Fonati Koffa and newly elected Speaker Richard Koon. They showed leadership by agreeing to hold fresh elections. The Executive sees this as a step toward strengthening democracy and national unity.
Minister of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism Jerolinmek M. Piah expressed the government's appreciation for this decision. He highlighted the importance of dialogue over division among lawmakers.
During a weekly press briefing on Tuesday, Minister Piah stressed placing national interests above personal ambitions. He commended the lawmakers' maturity in seeking renewed mandates from their constituents.
"We must appreciate Representatives Koffa and Koon for putting Liberia first," he said. Their commitment to national development and democratic principles is commendable.
The government's praise follows the lawmakers' initiative to hold new elections for the Speakership. This effort aims to reinforce Liberia's democratic foundations and promote national cohesion.
