Liberia Must Jail Fake Doctor Peter George and Cleanse Its Health System

The news that Peter Matthew George was never a real doctor is shocking. It is also criminal. Yet, he remains free.

This situation cannot continue.

The Liberia Medical and Dental Council (LMDC) confirmed that George used forged records. He posed as a medical doctor and worked in the public health system. He operated on patients without any verifiable credentials for years. His work included E&J Medical Center, JFK Hospital, and Gbarpolu County Health Office.

George must be banned from practicing medicine. He should also be arrested and prosecuted for his fraud. Families of his victims deserve justice, not excuses. For example, Benjamin Dokpah pays to keep his injured wife alive. Adonis Menlor buried his pregnant wife after a suspicious C-section.

The LMDC's revocation of George's license is a start but not enough. License revocation does not equal justice; it’s just an administrative action. George operated as a fake doctor for over ten years while holding public office. Some patients died on the operating table because of him.

Why is Peter George still free?

This isn’t the first time this has happened in Liberia. Fraudsters are often quietly removed when exposed, with investigations ignored. This cannot happen again; we know the names of the dead and their grieving families.

The LMDC, Ministry of Health, and all clinics that hired George must be held accountable too. His career was built in public view with institutional consent that failed to ask questions or look closely.

George is not alone in this issue; he represents a larger problem. Two others have been arrested this year for impersonating doctors and causing patient deaths through unauthorized surgeries. These cases highlight serious flaws in our healthcare system.

Liberia's health sector faces an emergency—not from disease but from fraud. The LMDC must conduct a nationwide audit of every licensed health worker now. Every doctor, nurse, physician assistant, and technician needs re-verification along with diploma checks and clinic inspections.

If we cannot trust our doctors, our entire health system is at risk.

The Legislature must act quickly too. New laws should mandate routine audits of medical professionals and increase penalties for impersonation crimes. The Ministry of Justice must prosecute credential fraud leading to death as a felony with severe penalties.

Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung needs to explain how Peter George became Chief Medical Officer at E&J Hospital despite being unlicensed. Was there political protection or a cover-up? The public deserves answers immediately.

This scandal has shattered families and damaged our health institutions' credibility. Without bold action now, similar incidents will occur again.

Peter George should be arrested and prosecuted if found guilty—he deserves life imprisonment for his actions.

If we do not punish medical fraud severely, we send a message that Liberia allows such behavior without consequences.

This situation is both a health crisis and a moral crisis requiring courage, reform, and justice.
Let it begin now.
