Liberia: Saeveral Lawmakers Summoned In Connection With Fire At Legislature

Monrovia — The Liberia National Police (LNP) has summoned seven lawmakers. They are being questioned about the recent arson attack on the Capitol Building.

The lawmakers include Jonathan Fonati Koffa, Prescillia Cooper, Dixon Seboe, Marvin Cole, Jacob Debee, Frank Saah Foko, and Abu Kamara. They must appear at LNP headquarters on Friday, June 6. They have been named "persons of interest" in the investigation.

Police Inspector General Gregory Coleman sent a formal letter to the House of Representatives. Chief Clerk Mildred Siryon read this letter during Thursday's session.

Details about the lawmakers' alleged involvement are not public yet. However, police sources say this is part of an investigation into the fire that damaged sections of the Capitol last week.

Law enforcement has not revealed if any lawmakers will face charges. The Capitol fire broke out under suspicious circumstances and raised security concerns at Liberia's main legislative facility.
