Malawi's education sector is set for a major boost. The Ministry of Local Government has instructed all District Commissioners to recruit nearly 26,000 primary school teachers. This follows the recent promotion of over 26,000 teachers from Grade TL to Grade TK by the Ministry of Education. This historic move has been praised as a morale booster for educators nationwide.
The recruitment will focus on filling the vacant Grade TL positions left by these promotions. The process will involve all local councils, ensuring every district benefits from new teaching staff.
This large-scale recruitment aligns with President Lazarus Chakwera's commitment to improving education and creating job opportunities for youth. A government source stated that promoting teachers and quickly filling vacancies shows the government's dedication to strengthening public education.
Charles Kumchenga, Secretary General of the Teachers Union of Malawi (TUM), praised the promotions. He called them "a major motivation for teachers to work even harder." Kumchenga noted that this action lifts morale and recognizes teachers' hard work.
Thousands of qualified teaching graduates are awaiting deployment. This announcement brings hope not only to them but also to learners affected by teacher shortages in public primary schools. President Chakwera's administration emphasizes education as a key part of national development. With this initiative, the government rewards dedicated teachers and reinforces its commitment to quality education for all.
