Namibia: 16 Namibian Companies Keen to Revive National Airline

Sixteen Namibian companies want to help set up a national airline.

Julius Ngweda, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Works and Transport, shared this news on Friday. He expressed appreciation for the public's enthusiasm and willingness to assist.

A technical committee has been formed to guide the airline's establishment. This committee includes experts in various aviation fields. Their goal is to ensure a thorough approach to this complex task.

Namibia's previous national airline, Air Namibia, was liquidated in 2021. The government announced plans for a new airline by December 2026 earlier this year.

Minister Veiko Nekundi stated that the new airline will boost the economy. He emphasized that Air Namibia will not return. "We are bringing back a national airline, not Air Namibia," he said.

Ngweda mentioned that the technical committee is actively discussing the airline's establishment. These meetings are essential for creating a successful national carrier. He stressed that establishing a new national airline is crucial for Namibia.

The ministry and committee recognize the public's strong interest in this project. They appreciate collaborative suggestions and offers of help from citizens.

While grateful for public engagement, Ngweda noted that outreach will happen strategically when needed. The committee will seek public input at appropriate stages of development.

"There is no need for individuals to reach out daily," he added.
