Namibia: Corruption Accused Trio to Appear in Katima Mulilo District Court

Three people were arrested by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) last week. They are linked to a fraudulent drought relief food supply scheme worth over N$4 million. They will appear in the Katima Mulilo District Court for a bail hearing on Monday.

The accused are Jimmy Simataa, Grodinah Liswaniso, and Gurion Siseho. They face multiple charges, including violating the ACC Act of 2003. Other charges include prevention of organized crime and corrupt use of office. Their first court appearance was on Friday, where they were denied bail.

The case was postponed to Monday for a formal bail application date. The ACC claims that Simataa conspired with Liswaniso and Siseho. They allegedly falsified documents to show that drought relief food had been delivered.

On Friday, state representative Sylvious Malange objected to granting bail. He cited the seriousness of the case and the risk of absconding. He argued that granting bail would not be in the public interest at this time.

Simataa and Siseho are represented by Inonge Mainga Legal Practitioners. Liswaniso plans to be represented by Kalundu Kamwi Legal Practitioners on Monday.
