A total of 839 Namibian runners will compete in the Two Oceans Ultra and Half-Marathon. This annual event takes place in Cape Town, South Africa, this weekend.
The ultra-marathon is scheduled for tomorrow and covers 56 kilometers (km). The half marathon will occur on Sunday over a distance of 21 km.
According to IOL, participants from 98 countries will join the race. They will compete in distances of 5km, 21km, and 56km. The Two Oceans Marathon is famous for its beautiful coastal route.
Among the Namibian runners are Mariana Mbako, Lisa Matomola, Ally Uxamb, and Charmaine Kandombo-Shimhopileni. Each runner has their own motivation and preparation story.
Mbako has trained intensively for this year's race. She started her training routine last year and loves long-distance running. "I train three times a week," she said. "On Saturdays, I focus on long runs over 21 km."
Last year, Mbako completed both the Ultra Marathon and the 21km race. She finished the ultra-marathon in five hours and the half marathon in two hours and ten minutes. This year, she plans to enjoy the scenic views while running.
"I am just going to have fun along the beautiful coast of Cape Town," Mbako added.
Matomola participated in the 56km race last year but will run the 21km this time. "I haven't been training much due to work commitments," she shared. Despite that, she is excited about this year's challenge.
Uxamb is returning for her second Two Oceans event. She finds motivation in completing races successfully. "What one feels when you finish is a huge motivator for me," she said.
Uxamb supports her journey through personal savings and sponsorships from companies.
