Namibia: Walvis Bay Prioritises Road Repairs in Budget

The Walvis Bay Town Council has made road maintenance a top priority. This includes urgent repairs for potholes and infrastructure.

Richard Hoaeb, the management committee chairperson, shared this during the budget speech on Friday. He noted that there is a significant backlog in road repairs. The poor condition of roads affects safety and quality of life.

Hoaeb emphasized that the council has a focused plan to address these issues. They aim to implement a comprehensive program for timely road upgrades.

He stated, "This is not just a maintenance concern; it is a public safety imperative." Investing in roads improves the well-being of residents and road users.

Hoaeb also mentioned past service delivery challenges were due to a lack of leadership. However, he believes these issues will improve with Victoria Kapenda as the new municipal chief executive. She was appointed in September last year.

"This budget is the first under her leadership," Hoaeb said. He expressed confidence that her presence will enhance budget execution, especially for capital projects. He expects an increase in execution rates due to her experience and commitment.
