Nigeria: Commissioner Resigns As PDP Governor Crosses to APC

Commissioner Ememobong has announced he will not follow the governor to the APC.

Ini Ememobong is the Commissioner for Special Duties and Ibom Deep Seaport in Akwa Ibom State. He resigned his position shortly after Governor Umo Eno joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Mr. Ememobong shared his resignation letter on Facebook. This was about an hour after Governor Eno's announcement at Government House on Friday. Weeks earlier, Mr. Eno had confirmed his departure from the PDP to join the APC.

Governor Eno had warned cabinet members to resign if they did not support him. "Prepare to resign when I announce my move," he said. He emphasized that loyalty should be to him as their appointee.

Mr. Ememobong cited this directive as his reason for resigning. He stated, "Today, I have tendered my resignation in compliance with his directive." He added that while he respects the governor's decision, he cannot join him in this political journey.

"My decision is based on my belief in principled politics," he explained. He also mentioned his long-standing opposition to the APC platform, which many Nigerians share.

In a full message posted on Facebook, Mr. Ememobong expressed gratitude for his time in office. He reflected positively on his contributions and left judgment of his work to history.

He thanked Governor Umo Eno for appointing him and acknowledged former Governor Udom Emmanuel’s support during his tenure.

Mr. Ememobong recognized that not everyone would agree with his decision but asked for understanding from those disappointed by it.

He concluded with a note of faith: "I trust that all things work together for good."
