Nigeria: Court Covicts Tiktoker of Naira Abuse

The EFCC arrested a TikToker for naira abuse after he posted a video.

Muhammad Kabir was convicted by the Federal High Court in Kaduna.

He received a six-month prison sentence or a N300,000 fine.

The judge sentenced him after he pleaded guilty to one count of naira abuse.

This charge violated Section 21(3) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007.

Section 21(3) makes it illegal to spray or step on naira notes.

Section 21(1) states that offenders can face six months in jail or fines.

PREMIUM TIMES reported that Mr. Sa'ad was arrested this year.

He uploaded a video showing him throwing and stepping on naira notes.

In the video, he challenged EFCC officers to arrest him if they could.

EFCC operatives found and detained him in Tudun Wada, Kaduna State.

Initially, Mr. Sa'ad pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

However, EFCC's counsel urged the court to convict him.

The judge confirmed his guilt and imposed the sentence mentioned earlier.

This is not the first conviction for naira abuse by the EFCC.

Crossdresser Bobrisky was also arrested for similar actions in March 2024.

He was jailed for six months after flaunting new naira notes at a movie premiere.

On May 8, two others received six-month sentences for naira mutilation as well.
