Nigeria: Gov Eno Finally Dumps PDP for APC

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He has joined Nigeria's ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Mr. Eno made the announcement on Friday. He spoke at a meeting in the Government House. Governors from Lagos, Ogun, Edo, Delta, Ebonyi, and Cross River states attended.

"Earlier this morning, I submitted my resignation letter from the PDP," Mr. Eno said. He sent copies to both state and national party chairpersons.

With his defection, the PDP is now an opposition party in Akwa Ibom. This marks the first time in 26 years for the party in this oil-rich state.

Mr. Eno is the second PDP governor from the South-south region to join APC recently. Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State was the first in less than two months.

More details will follow later.
