Prof. Godwin Adebola Oladejobi, chairman and founder of the Innovative College of Education (ICE), has urged the federal government to improve the education curriculum. He also called for higher teachers' salaries to meet global standards.
Oladejobi made these statements during the first Convocation ceremony for graduates from 2022 to 2025 in Abuja. He emphasized that the government should enhance the school curriculum with innovative technology ideas used worldwide.
He stated, "Things will improve if we revive and reform our education sector." He added that implementing necessary reforms is crucial for educational growth.
Oladejobi noted that many trained teachers are leaving for other jobs or moving abroad due to low salaries and lack of resources. He stressed that teachers need motivation and better compensation to provide quality education.
The keynote speaker, Prof. Silas D. John, discussed challenges in teacher education. He highlighted issues like funding shortages and inadequate resources faced by teachers and administrators.
John pointed out problems such as poor power supply, unreliable internet access, outdated library materials, and a lack of furniture in schools. These factors lower teacher morale and reduce education quality.
He remarked, "When teacher training institutions lack basic necessities, expecting quality educators is unrealistic." A teacher trained under scarcity may continue this cycle in their classroom.
Pharm. (Dr.) Luka Panya Baba, Esu Karu and president of Karu Traditional Council, praised the school board and graduates. He encouraged them to prioritize education and foster an innovative culture to benefit communities and society at large.
