The death toll from the Bokkos killings is rising. Peter Obi, the Labour Party's presidential candidate for 2023, is concerned about insecurity in Nigeria.
On the night of April 2, 2025, armed men attacked five communities in Bokkos Local Government Area. They killed 10 people during this invasion. By Thursday, over 40 bodies had been recovered as more were found.
Obi condemned these "senseless attacks" on families in Bokkos communities. He expressed his distress over the situation.
"I woke up to another gory report from Bokkos," he said. "Entire families have been slaughtered again. Children and pregnant women were not spared."
He mentioned that five communities—Mangor Tamiso, Daffo, Manguna, Hurti, and Tadai—are mourning their losses. They are forced to bury loved ones in mass graves.
Obi questioned how long these killings and kidnappings would continue. He asked how long Nigerians must wait for decisive action against this crisis.
He noted that killings and kidnappings are becoming normal occurrences. Insecurity is so widespread that Nigerians now live in fear.
