Professor Jibril Aminu, a prominent Nigerian scholar and politician, has died. He was 85 years old. A family source confirmed his passing to Daily Trust on Wednesday. Hon. Abdullahi Prambe, the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development in Adamawa State, also verified the news.
Aminu celebrated his 85th birthday on August 25, 2024. He was a significant figure in Nigerian public life. Born in Song, Adamawa in 1939, he had a remarkable career. His work included being a Consultant Cardiologist and an educational administrator.
Aminu held many important positions during his public service. He served as Minister of Education and Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources. He was also Nigeria's Ambassador to the United States and a Senator for Adamawa Central.
Prambe expressed deep sorrow over Aminu's death. He called him a mentor and guiding light for Adamawa and Nigeria. "His contributions to education, healthcare, and governance will remain in our history," Prambe said.
The funeral is set for today at 2 PM after the Zuhr prayer at Abuja National Mosque. The family has not yet released details about the cause of death or further funeral arrangements.
