President Cyril Ramaphosa has shared his condolences for former Zambian President Edgar Chagwa Lungu.
On behalf of South Africa, he expressed sympathy to Lungu's family and the Zambian government. This statement was released by the Presidency on Friday.
President Lungu died on Thursday, June 5, 2025. He was in a Pretoria hospital receiving treatment for several weeks.
"As regional compatriots, South Africans stand with Zambia during this difficult time," said Ramaphosa.
He noted that they had the privilege of caring for a leader they considered a brother and friend.
Ramaphosa expressed shared grief with the Lungu family and the Zambian nation. "May his soul rest in peace," he added.
President Lungu was 68 years old at the time of his passing.
