The government has confirmed with "deep sadness" the death of a South African citizen in West Virginia, USA.
"Our Embassy in Washington D.C. is providing full consular assistance to the family," said the Department of International Relations and Cooperation on Tuesday.
The department noted that U.S. authorities are actively investigating the circumstances of her death.
"Out of respect for the ongoing investigation and the grieving family, we will not provide further details at this time," they added.
Reports indicate that Kim White Towne, originally from Cape Town, was allegedly killed by her husband, Alexander Towne. He reportedly strangled her during a domestic dispute last month.
Following her death, Alexander Towne was charged with second-degree murder. He is currently in custody without bail.
Minister Ronald Lamola has expressed condolences to the family during this difficult time.
