South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has reached out to tech billionaire Elon Musk to ease tensions sparked by a land reform law that has drawn sharp criticism from the U.S. administration.
President Donald Trump threatened to cut all future funding to South Africa over accusations of land confiscation and mistreatment of certain groups.
In response, Ramaphosa's office stated that the president emphasized South Africa's commitment to the rule of law, justice, and fairness during his conversation with Musk.
The new law, which allows land expropriation without compensation in certain cases, has been met with both support for addressing historical inequalities and concerns about its potential economic impact.
