Tanzania: Deputy PM Warns Against Disunity As Tanzania Heads for General Elections

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Dr. Doto Biteko, urged citizens to stay united. He emphasized avoiding divisions based on religion, politics, or ethnicity. This call comes as the country approaches the General Election for President, Members of Parliament, and Councilors.

Dr. Biteko spoke today, April 23, 2025. His remarks were made during the launch of a water project in Esilalei Village, Monduli District, Arusha Region. He addressed hundreds of residents at the event.

"I wish to see us not divided by religion or politics," he said. "I urge the people of Monduli to love and cooperate with one another." He encouraged everyone to vote justly when election time arrives.

Dr. Biteko praised the Ministry of Water and RUWASA for their work on the project. He asked Esilalei residents to take good care of it. The second phase is expected to be completed by December this year.

This phase will increase access to clean water for the community. Dr. Biteko assured residents that President Samia Suluhu Hassan's government is committed to development. Key services like water, electricity, and roads are priorities.

He noted that President Samia values pastoralist communities in Monduli. She sent her greetings and affirmed support for livestock keepers alongside all citizens.

Regarding electricity access in Monduli District, Dr. Biteko reported progress. All villages have been connected to electricity; 72 out of 236 sub-villages are electrified already. The remaining areas will be connected after the election.

In response to a request from Monduli MP Freddy Lowassa for 20 electricity poles, Dr. Biteko made a promise. Starting next Thursday, residents will see action on this request without conditions attached. He emphasized that actions speak louder than words in life.
