President Donald Trump confirmed the recent US military airstrikes in Somalia that targeted senior members of the Islamic State (IS).
Trump announced on social media that the strikes destroyed caves used by terrorists, killing many without harming civilians.
The Somali government acknowledged the operation, highlighting the continued partnership with the US in fighting terrorism.
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed that the strikes eliminated several IS operatives. The attack took place in the Golis mountains of north-east Somalia.
Trump also criticized the previous administration for not taking swift action, positioning himself as more decisive in combating IS.
These airstrikes come less than two weeks after Trump re-engaged military operations in Somalia.
