Uganda: Hima Cement Gives Kabaka Birthday Run Sh20 Million Boost to Fight HIV/Aids

Kampala – Hima Cement has pledged sh20 million to support this year's Kabaka Birthday Run. This event aims to fight HIV/AIDS in Uganda.

The run is scheduled for April 6. It will celebrate the 70th birthday of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II. The theme is "Men for Good Health to Save the Girl Child."

This initiative aligns with the Ugandan government's goal. They aim to eliminate AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.

Philemon Mubiru, Head of Innovation and Marketing at Hima Cement, stated, "This partnership is about investing in our communities." He emphasized their commitment to fighting HIV together.

Mubiru added that the Kabaka Birthday Run spreads vital health messages. It focuses on HIV prevention and awareness. Hima Cement is proud to support such an impactful cause.

The Kabaka Birthday Run started to address high disease rates in Buganda. It has helped reduce the region's HIV prevalence rate, which was once the highest in Uganda.

Uganda faces serious challenges with HIV. About 1.4 million people live with the virus. In 2022, there were 54,000 new infections reported.

The national prevalence rate is currently at 5.1%. Young women and adolescent girls are most affected by this issue.

These statistics highlight the need for public-private partnerships. They are crucial for advancing awareness, testing, and treatment efforts.
