Kasama Road in Lusaka, Zambia, will be renamed to honor the late Namibian president Hage Geingob. The unveiling ceremony is scheduled for Friday.
Former first lady Monica Geingos will attend the event. She noted that Geingob often said Zambia was his second home.
Geingob lived in Zambia from 1976 to 1989. He led the United Nations Institute for Namibia in Lusaka during this time.
Geingos highlighted Geingob's contributions as Namibia's first prime minister. He ensured government vehicle registrations were 'GRN' to honor Zambia's 'GRZ' plates.
She also mentioned that "One Namibia, One Nation" was inspired by Kenneth Kaunda’s slogan.
Zambian politician Joseph Kalimbwe called Geingob a son of Lusaka. He noted that many Southern African Development Community presidents lived in Lusaka and spoke the local language.
