Former Cabinet Minister Professor Jonathan Moyo criticized journalist Sophie Mokoena. He called her comments on Victoria Falls "divisive and misleading."
Mokoena, the International News Editor for SABC, posted on X (formerly Twitter). She claimed that "Zambia is the home of Mosi-Oa-Tunya. Victoria Falls." This upset Prof. Moyo.
In his response, he accused her of spreading propaganda instead of facts. He noted that her post did not reflect the Pan-African values she promotes online.
Prof. Moyo stated, "You are abusing your journalistic position for cheap propaganda." He emphasized that both Zambia and Zimbabwe share Mosi-Oa-Tunya - The Victoria Falls.
He pointed out that Zimbabwe offers better views with 16 viewpoints. These include iconic sections like the Main Falls and Devil's Cataract.
"Most visitors prefer Zimbabwe's side," he said. It provides broader vistas across two-thirds of the falls' width.
Moyo acknowledged Zambia's unique experience during the dry season. Activities like Devil's Pool are accessible then. However, he argued that Zambia’s view covers only one-third of the falls.
He urged for unity in storytelling about the falls. "They should not be politicized," he said.
"Both Zambia and Zimbabwe are home to Mosi-Oa-Tunya," he concluded. "This is a beautiful expression of nature."
