Violence erupted during a Central Region Division One match. The game was between Shabanie Mine FC and Gwanda Pirates FC at Maglas Stadium in Zvishavane, Midlands province. This chaos led to the abandonment of the match.
Two fans suffered serious injuries. Police used tear gas to disperse the fighting supporters. Reports indicate that an unidentified fan fired a gun during the incident.
The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) condemned the violence. They stated that an investigation is underway.
In a statement, ZIFA expressed deep regret over the attack. They noted that it resulted in serious injuries and forced the game's abandonment. ZIFA extended their thoughts to the victims and their families, wishing them a speedy recovery.
ZIFA emphasized that football should unite people, not cause harm or fear. They called for a review of match-day security protocols and stricter crowd control measures for high-risk games.
ZIFA plans to collaborate with Central Region officials and law enforcement. They aim to identify those responsible for the violence and restore public trust. Disciplinary action will be taken against anyone who contributed to or failed to prevent this incident.
"Violence has absolutely no place in our game," ZIFA stated firmly.
