Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kofi Sarpong is also a gospel musician. He stated he will serve any Inspector General of Police (IGP) appointed by the government. He believes that if he is meant to be IGP, it will happen in God's time.
Sarpong spoke on The Career Trail program on Joy Learning TV and Joy News. He was asked if he wanted to become IGP someday. He replied, “Destiny is in the hands of the Lord. He prepares, appoints, and promotes.”
He currently serves under the present administration and will continue to do so. If the opportunity arises for him to become IGP, he welcomes it but remains focused on his current role.
Reflecting on his career, ACP Sarpong shared that he started after finishing Berekum Senior High School. He joined the police without a university degree and began as a Constable after training.
“After the training, I was Constable Class 2,” he said. Despite starting from the bottom, he did not let that limit him. He took a short course soon after joining, which helped him advance.
“Because of that short course, I was promoted to Chief Inspector,” he explained. This promotion allowed him direct entry into the Police Academy, now called Police College.
He graduated as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP). Later, he became Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), which inspired him to release an album.
“With my graduation from Police College as ASP and then DSP, I created an album,” he shared. His career progressed with promotions to Superintendent and then Chief Superintendent before becoming ACP.
ACP Sarpong acknowledged divine grace in his journey but emphasized discipline's importance in his growth. Discipline has kept him serving for over 20 years.
“The Police Service is a disciplinary institution,” he noted. There are rules and regulations to follow upon entering the service. Being punctual and obedient leads to success in this field.
Considering his current rank could lead to becoming IGP one day, ACP Sarpong expressed contentment with serving diligently under any appointed IGP. He trusts that God's plan for his life will unfold at the right time.
