I’ve never received an award in 20 years because of my branding – Mzbel

Mzbel Mzbel

Ghanaian hiplife artist Mzbel has shared her thoughts on not winning any awards.

She has been in the music industry for 20 years. Mzbel gained fame in 2004 with her first album, "Awoso Me." During her peak, she was the biggest female artist in Ghana.

Mzbel's popularity extended to other African countries like Nigeria and Liberia. However, she feels that Ghana has not recognized her contributions with any awards.

In an interview on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, she expressed her disappointment. “I have been in the industry for 20 years; I’ve never received any award,” she said.

She reflected on what she would do differently if starting music today. She admitted that she did not prepare well for her career initially.

“I am not blaming anybody,” Mzbel stated. She believes poor branding affected her success. “If I were starting music today, I would focus more on branding,” she added.

Mzbel also mentioned that she is still active in music. She is currently working on a new song about bad friends.

She is known for popular songs like "16 Years," "Awoso Me," and "Yopoo."
