The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) is working to establish a minimum wage for musicians. This initiative aims to ensure fair pay and improve livelihoods in the industry.
MUSIGA has engaged Kingsley Ofei-Nkansah, known as Sax, as a consultant. He will support this important effort.
The union has also met with the owners of +233, a leading live performance venue. They discussed how to implement the minimum wage. These meetings are key steps in MUSIGA's strategy to collaborate with industry stakeholders.
These efforts come after comments from prominent religious leaders. Rev. Dag Heward-Mills and Rev. Elishah Amoako have spoken about compensating musicians fairly. Their statements highlight the need for a minimum wage in Ghana's music industry.
S.K. Agyemang, MUSIGA's General Secretary, emphasized their commitment to fair pay. He noted that discussions with Sax and +233 owners show this dedication.
He added that respected leaders' comments reinforce the importance of this initiative. MUSIGA aims to ensure musicians receive proper recognition and compensation through a structured wage system.
MUSIGA is also collaborating with international experts and local stakeholders. They are developing a framework for fair wages and a sustainable music industry in Ghana.
