Singer Jessie J reveals early breast cancer diagnosis

Singer Jessie J has been diagnosed with early breast cancer.

The 37-year-old shared the news on Instagram. She plans to have surgery after performing at Capital's Summertime Ball in London later this month.

Jessie mentioned she had been "in and out of tests" recently.

"Cancer sucks in any form, but I'm holding on to the word 'early'," she said in a video message.

She joked, "It's a very dramatic way to get a boob job."

Jessie added, "I will disappear for a bit after Summertime Ball for my surgery. I will come back with massive [boobs] and more music."

She explained that she is going public with her diagnosis to help herself process it. She also wants to show solidarity with others facing similar challenges.

"I wanted to be open and share it," she continued. "I do not talk about it enough because I'm working hard."

Sharing her experiences has helped her receive love and support from others.

"It breaks my heart that so many people are going through similar or worse situations," she said.

The performer gave birth to a son in 2023. She noted that her diagnosis has given her "incredible perspective."

"But honestly, I need to process it and talk about it," she told fans. "I need a hug."

"You have loved me through all my good and hard times," she added. "I don't want this to be any different."

TV presenter Gaby Roslin commented, offering "so much love and enormous hugs."

Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women in the UK.

The NHS advises checking your breasts regularly for changes in size, look, or feel.

Jessie J has faced health issues throughout her life. She was diagnosed with a heart condition as a child and had a stroke as a teenager.

In 2020, she briefly went deaf due to Meniere's disease. Last year, she revealed diagnoses of ADHD and OCD.
