Throwback Thursday: King Promise's rise from Nungua to the World

This week’s Throwback Thursday features King Promise. He is the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards Artiste of the Year.

King Promise has been redefining Ghanaian music since 2016. His smooth vocals, catchy beats, and unique style have made him a standout artist. His big shoes even have their own fanbase!

The Promise Begins — 2016

King Promise, whose real name is Gregory Bortey Newman, debuted with “Thank God.” This song featured British-Ghanaian artist Fuse ODG. It was a humble yet confident start, filled with gratitude. From the beginning, he showed he had a unique sound and message.

Building Momentum — 2017 to 2018

“Terminator,” released in May 2023, showcased King Promise's global impact. Produced by KillBeatz, it gained over 200 million streams and dominated TikTok. The song inspired remixes from Young Jonn, Tiwa Savage, and Sean Paul.

Making History — 2024 and Beyond

In April 2024, King Promise made history as the first Ghanaian artist to sell out a concert in Singapore. The event took place at Tipsy Unicorn Beach House and launched his Asian Tour. He also performed in Bali and Jakarta.

King Promise has created hits like “Abena,” “Commando,” and “Selfish.” His crossover tracks include “Favourite Story” and “Paris.” Now crowned Artiste of the Year for 2025, his journey reflects consistency and talent.
