Two rising visual storytellers win maiden TGMA’s Creators Challenge

Two young digital creators, Darlington Edem and Michael Kumasenu, won the first Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs) Creators Challenge.

This online competition invited upcoming Ghanaian content creators to share their stories using smartphones.

Telecel Ghana partnered with Samsung to announce the challenge during the TGMAs season. The goal was to help emerging creators showcase their skills during the music awards.

Entrants created short videos that captured the theme: Music in Motion. They interpreted this theme uniquely using their smartphones.

Darlington is a final-year student at the University of Ghana. He is passionate about creative arts, filming, and photography. Michael is a civil engineering graduate who loves mobile videography. Both stood out among many applicants.

Their storytelling skills connected them with the audience at the TGMAs.

The prize included an all-access pass to capture exclusive behind-the-scenes content at the event. They received Samsung’s latest flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S25 Ultra, and also got a Galaxy A56.

Their video content featured red carpet appearances, stage performances, audience reactions, and award presentations. This marked a change in how Ghanaian entertainment is captured and shared on social media.

“I joined the challenge to show my craft,” Darlington said. “My video showed people enjoying music and their emotions while dancing.”

The TGMA Creators’ Challenge empowers young creators to merge music, culture, and community through vibrant moments.

“The challenge connects talents and unlocks potential in user-generated content,” said Aneth Muga from Telecel Ghana. “We see growing interest in mobile content creation among young people.”

For Michael, this experience will be memorable for years to come.

“Covering the TGMAs was amazing and a dream come true,” he said. “I had access to musicians for interviews and captured performances with my Samsung device.”

He feels inspired to stay consistent and make the most of this opportunity.
