'Expertise is not about what you call yourself, but what you can actually do' - McDan schools Youth

Dr. Daniel McKorley, Chairman of the McDan Group, has a warning for young professionals. He cautioned them against claiming expertise without hard work.

Many people label themselves as "CEO," "Business Manager," or "Digital Expert" on LinkedIn. They often do this after completing short courses or earning certificates. However, they may lack the skills to support these titles.

Dr. McKorley emphasized that true expertise is about actions, not titles. He stated on Facebook, “Expertise is not about what you call yourself. It’s about what you can actually do.”

He highlighted that real expertise requires commitment and discipline. Many individuals talk more than they act, which can lead to feelings of inadequacy in their roles.

“A lot of people like to talk more than they actually do,” he noted. This behavior can prevent them from finding their niche.

Success comes from consistency and proof of work, not just hype. Dr. McKorley advised young professionals to focus on delivering results consistently.

“Success from your expertise isn’t built on hype,” he wrote. It requires dedication and hard work over time.

He encouraged individuals to embrace challenging tasks in their roles. Putting in the hours will help make the work feel natural over time.
