15-year-old OLAG SHS student donates sanitary pads to school girls

Abigail has made her fourth donation. This time, she helped 30 girls in the Northern and Ashanti Regions. Each sanitary pack included underwear, Softcare pads, soap, and a face towel.

The initiative supports junior high school (JHS) and senior high school (SHS) girls. Many of these girls lack access to sanitary products. The goal is to boost their confidence and comfort during menstruation.

Esther Ganu, Senior Housemistress at OLAG SHS, praised Abigail for her efforts. She highlighted the importance of supporting vulnerable girls so they can stay in school during their periods.

Ganu also stressed the need for menstrual education for boys. She believes this will help reduce stigma around menstruation. Boys should understand that menstruation is normal and support girls instead of teasing them.

She noted that many boys may one day have daughters. Therefore, it’s important for them to be caring and understanding about menstruation.

Madam Ganu encouraged more support for Abigail's project to help it grow. She urged beneficiaries to use the donated items wisely.

Abigail's 'Red Girl Project' promotes education on hygiene and safe menstrual products. She wants to discourage unhygienic alternatives like cloth or toilet paper.

“Every girl deserves a safe, dry, and clean menstruation,” Abigail stated. She believes no girl should miss school because of her period.

Inadequate sanitary care can worsen menstrual discomfort, affecting mood and well-being. Abigail thanked her team and supporters for their help with the project.

She hopes to see her mantra—“Every girl deserves a safe and sound menstruation”—become reality soon. Abigail aims to expand her donations in line with the government’s goal of providing free sanitary pads to students.

Her mission is clear: ensure girls feel comfortable and confident during their periods so they can achieve their academic goals.
