The Institute of Economic Research and Public Policy (IERPP) has urged caution over the 2025 budget, emphasizing the need for transparency, particularly regarding the 24-hour economy policy.
While the initiative aims to create a three-shift work system and reduce production costs through energy subsidies, IERPP criticized the lack of details on implementation costs and expected beneficiaries.
The budget projects total revenue and grants at GHS223.8 billion (17.2% of GDP), which is slightly lower than the 2024 figure of 17.4% of GDP, raising concerns about revenue mobilization.
Meanwhile, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson announced the establishment of the Ghana Gold Board (GOLDBOD) to boost forex reserves. The 24-hour economy policy will be formally presented to Parliament for approval, with incentives planned for businesses operating beyond regular hours.
